About the Wikimedia Foundation[ફેરફાર કરો]
Wikimedia Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports various Wikimedia projects. They support the growth of Wikimedia projects, by providing technical support, resources to volunteers and affiliates, among others.
The Wikimedia Foundation has a Board of Trustees that oversees the and its work, as its ultimate corporate authority. The Board also oversees the Foundation’s annual planning, which is crucial for the Foundation to decide on support for various projects, regions and communities, in a year.
2021 Board elections for Community seats[ફેરફાર કરો]
Of the sixteen trustees on the Board, one is served for the founder, seven are appointed by the trustees for necessary expertise and eight seats are elected through a community election process. Four of these eight seats are now up for election.
In the last 15 years of WMF’s history, no one from the South Asia region had a chance to serve on the Board. This is impacting the lack of representation from the community and the region in high-level governance structures of the Wikimedia movement.
This time, we have a chance to change that. Please see the elections timeline below and how you can be a part of it.

- June 6-29: Call for Candidates
- July 2: Announcement of confirmed candidates
- July 7 - Aug 3: Candidates campaign
- August 4-17: Community voting period
- August 25: Announcement of vote results
Voting information[ફેરફાર કરો]
You may vote from any one registered account you own on a Wikimedia wiki. You may only vote once, regardless of how many accounts you own. To qualify, this one account must:
not be blocked on more than one project; and not be a bot; and have made at least 300 edits before 5 July 2021 across Wikimedia wikis; and have made at least 20 edits between 5 January 2021 and 5 July 2021.
